Choosing a House Cleaning Service – Questions to Ask Before You Commit

Once your furniture removal is complete and you have settled into your new home you

might like to consider hiring a house cleaning service to make sure your old premises are left in as good a condition as possible, or to use as an ongoing servicing your new home.

So how do you go about choosing a house cleaning service? Remember there are many competitors in the market and you have to be careful to choose the right contractor because you only get one chance. The last thing you want to happen is to hire a cleaning company and then discover that the job has been poorly completed and you have to go and do the job again yourself.

Let's take a look at some of the things you can do and questions you can ask before you decide which house cleaning service to use.

Following a move, it's quite likely you will have limited timeframe in which to operate. The first question you should ask any possible cleaning contractor is whether they can work within the same time constraints. Make sure you list exactly what needs to be done and specify which items are to be cleaned, how they are to be cleaned, and what end result you expect. There is no point, for example, asking a contractor whether they are capable of cleaning the floor. You must specify exactly what you expect in terms of the end result and ask them how long it will take them to do it, and how it will be done.

Draw up a list of specifications. This includes specifying exactly how you would like each task to be done. For example, cleaning the floor might require wax or a specialist cleaning product in order to bring it up to a certain standard. If surfaces need to be cleaned make sure you specify whether they just need a simple wipe over, or whether they need a more rigourous cleaning. Another point is to ask whether you are expected to supply the cleaning products or whether the contractor can do this for you. Where the contractor tells you they will supply all cleaning materials, make sure you ask exactly what product will be used and what the breakdown cost is for using any particular product.

Payment. Make sure you specify with the contractor exactly how they will be paid, when they will be paid and what recourse should have in the event that the job is not performed your satisfaction. If necessary, you should have the payment method incorporated into the contract, along with clauses that specify the procedure to be followed in the event of a dispute.

If you are using a cleaning contractor for a one-off job, like cleaning up your old house after you have moved, the contract may not need to be as specific as a long-term arrangement where you will be using the contractor to clean your house on a regular basis.

Either way it is important to make sure you have your requirements specified so that long after the furniture removal has been completed, you avoid any arguments further down the track.
