Choosing the Perfect NY Driving School for your Teen

For teens getting a driver's license is an exciting time. For parents it can be freighting, stressful and has the potential to cause frequent panic attacks. Teaching your child how to drive isn't easy so why not leave it to the professionals. Most states require teens and new drivers to complete a required amount of hours at a driving school before getting their permit or license.

When searching for a driving school in NYC to take your child to don't base your decision on price alone. Most driving schools are similar in cost, but they do differ in teaching methods, quality of cars, and some even offer special insurance discounts.

A great place to start your search is your child. Most schools will have information about driving schools in your area. If your child's school doesn't provide you with the proper information or they may be limited on their resources, you could use your child's friends as a source. Chances are their parents are conducting the same search you are and may already know or have gone to a driving school they could recommend. The internet is another great way to get information on local driving courses offered.

Once you have determined which NY driving schools you would like to further research and visit the first thing you want to do is check in with the better business bureau to ensure that they are accredited organizations. Driving schools in NY that aren't accredited may still have a good program however, if you are interested in receiving insurance discounts your insurance company will only recognize institutions that have proper accreditation.

The last step is visiting the school. Most schools this isn't required however if you want to check out the car your child will be learning with, it's best to make a visit first. Things to make sure a student car has are a passenger wheel and brake in case something goes wrong and the instructor will have to take over. You also want to get an over view of each lesson. Your taking your child to the driving school not only to learn the basics of a car and driving laws, but you also want them to gain a real world experience, learn caution, safety, and instinctual driving skills. If the driving course does not cover everything you expected it too than move on to the next school.
