Choosing your class in Star Wars the Old Republic
Choosing your class in Star Wars the Old Republic
Having difficulties choosing what to play in the upcoming Star Wars MMO; The Old Republic?
Awaiting release from Bioware, the company that created Knights of The Old Republic, in this article I'll be going over the class choices you have, a good read when contemplating old republic character creation.
If you prefer to be a melee dps in the old republic you have four choices. For the Republic faction you can either be a Jedi Knight in Sentinel specialisation or you can be a Jedi Consular in Shadow specialisation. The difference between these two are that the Jedi Knight dual wields two lightsabers and the Jedi Consular has one dual-bladed lightsaber. If you'd prefer the Empire faction the melee classes consist of either a Sith warrior in a Marauder specialisation or a Sith Inquisitor in Assassin specialisation. The difference between the classes again consist of the Warrior dual wielding lightsabers and the Inquisitor being equipped with a dual-bladed lightsaber. My own personal guess is that either of these four classes will be a good choice for old republic pvp.
Next up we have tank classes in Star Wars The Old Republic which also presents you with four choices. For the Republic we have Jedi Knight in Guardian specialisation and Trooper in Vanguard specialisation. A bit bigger difference here; the Jedi Knight is a melee tank with a single lightsaber and the Trooper is a ranged tank with a blaster rifle. Empire side you have a Sith Warrior in Juggernaut specialisation and a Bounty Hunter in Powertech specialisation. Surprise, surprise the Sith Warrior is a melee tank equipped with a single lightsaber and the Bounty Hunter is a ranged tank suitably firing a flame-thrower at his enemies.
There is a bit more choices for the ranged damage classes and first off with have the Republic again with Jedi Consular in Sage specialisation, Smuggler in Gunslinger or Scoundrel specialisation and Trooper in Commando specialisation. The Jedi Consular wears a single lightsaber and uses telekinesis to blast enemies with nearby objects. The Smuggler and Trooper both uses guns, for the Smuggler it's either dual pistols or a shot gun whereas the Trooper has a heavy blaster cannon.
The Empire equivalents are the Sith Inquisitor in Sorcerer specialisation, the Imperial Agent in Sniper or Operative specialisation and the Bounty Hunter in Mercenary specialisation. Similar to the Republic the Inquisitor has a single lightsaber but instead of telekinesis uses force lightning to defeat enemies. The Imperial Agent can choose depending on specialisation between a sniper rifle or a blaster rifle and the Bounty Hunter dual wield guns.
Last up is the healers of The Old Republic game, again we're facing four classes.
In the Republic corner we're looking at the Jedi Consular in Sage specialisation or Smuggler in Scoundrel specialisation. Just as the ranged damage Jedi, the Consular uses a single lightsaber and telekinesis and the Smuggler is equipped with a shot gun. No surprises in the Empire either, the Sith Inquisitor in Sorcerer specialisation got a single lightsaber and uses force lightning, and the Imperial Agent in Operative specialisation once again carries a blaster rifle.
I hope you've enjoyed this walkthrough of the classes in Star Wars Old Republic, you can always find more detailed information about the old republic game on The Old Republic forums!
