Christianity, The Brain, And Psychology: They Are All Related And Compatible
Christians and scientists seem to be at odds with each other much of the time
. Both have theories to explain aspects of the universe in general and humans specifically. Unfortunately, both make the same mistake and this has led to controversy and conflict. This mistake is each using only a very limited amount of information and attempting to explain the totality.
A healthy Christian view is that God created all the rules that govern the universe. A healthy scientific view is that the primary role of science is to accurately describe those rules. If that is the case, how can the search for truth not lead to God? Yet we find both scientists and Christians arguing about how untenable each others position is based on 4% of the known universe.
How many of you are familiar with the terms dark energy and dark matter? If you do an internet search you will find current theory holds that around 96% of the universe is composed of these and neither interacts with light. No one actually knows what either is.
Dr.
Robert A. Moss writes articles for Rejoice magazine and the March issue discussed this topic. In this, he notes that the Bible describes accurately everything, both what we can perceive and what we cannot. He notes that the first chapter in Genesis actually describes darkness being present and predating the formation of the universe. There is a very detailed article available on the Emotional Restructuring website that discusses this in more detail.
Dr.
Robert A. Moss has written two Christian books which explain how the design of the brain explains why humans are the worldly creatures they are and why they cannot be different. This is briefly discussed in the May issue of Rejoice. Based on this and what is required for one to have eternal life with God, he discusses how grace is the only means to have that eternal life.
In two professional articles which are also available at the website, Dr.
Robert A. Moss has described a theory of how learning and memory occur in the cortices of the brain, and how this relates to the development and treatment of psychological difficulties. Perhaps the time is rapidly approaching when Christianity and science realize they are looking at the same thing. They just need to look past what they can perceive with their senses.
