The devastating effects of Diabetes on the human body are well known and very little is known about how to cure it. However, a new study done by Thames Valley University of London has made a breakthrough finding by discovering the beneficial effects of cinnamon on diabetes. The aim of the study was to determine the blood glucose lowering effect of cinnamon on HbA1c, blood pressure and lipid profiles in people with type-2 diabetes, a condition characterized by high blood glucose levels caused by either a lack of insulin or the body's inability to use insulin efficiently. Type 2 diabetes develops most often in middle-aged and older adults but can appear in young people as well. This form of the disease is often related to choices of diet and lifestyle and can be controlled by diet.
For the purpose of the study, 58 type-2 diabetic patients including 25 males and 33 females aged 54.9 9.8, treated only with hypoglycaemic agents and with an HbA1c more than 7 per cent were at random assigned to be given either 2 g of cinnamon or placebo daily for 12 weeks.
