Cirque Du Soleil : Cirque Du Soleil And A New Extension Of The Show
Cirque du Soleil is a Quebec company specializing in entertainment arts contemporary circus
. Headquartered in Montreal, Quebec (Canada), in the Saint-Michel. It was founded in 1984 in Baie-Saint-Paul by two former street performers Guy Laliberte and Daniel Gauthier. It is held from August 2008 to 20% by a consortium of two companies belonging to the Dubai-based investment company Dubai World .
The company is distinguished by a different vision of the traditional circus arts, including the absence of animals, a strong focus on games of actors, and based primarily on its production numbers acrobatics. It now employs [Footnote 1] 4000 people worldwide including more than 1,000 artists, some are former professional athletes converted .
It currently has 20 productions to nine thematic shows touring the world (six in capitals, in two arenas and a theater), 10 resident shows (Las Vegas, Orlando, Tokyo and Macau) and a seasonal show in New York . Other projects are in progress in Dubai Los Angeles , Macau, New York and as touring shows.
Cirque du Soleil, which develops business activities derived from its shows (event management, audiovisual productions, merchandising, licensing), is also a major player in the social and cultural. Describing himself as Cirque citizen, the company is involved including the funding of organizations in over twenty countries on five continents and created an international Cirque du Monde to help street youth in trouble . It also addresses the issue of sustainable development and the environment , notably through the founder Guy Laliberte and his One Drop Foundation, whose mission is to fight against poverty in the world by encouraging the access to acids.
Following the success generated by the 1992 passage of the capital of New Experience in the parking lot of The Mirage in Las Vegas, the company signed a contract with billionaire Steve Wynn, then chairman of the company Mirage Resort, for creating a permanent show which is expected to operate for 10 years .
The production, called Mystery, is housed in a new theater of 1629 seats built at the foot of the hotel, Treasure Island, and marks a milestone in the economic development of Cirque du Soleil. For the first time, designers must create a performance which is permanent infrastructure and logistics more consistent. It should also meet the challenge of seducing the city whose productions were presented before any European inspirations with many inspired cabaret Folies Bergere. Already in 1990, Cirque had made an approach with the owners of the hotel-casino Caesar's Palace, but the Executive had announced after a presentation of concepts, it would be "too risky" and "esoteric" for a city like Las Vegas .
The show is again directed by Franco Dragone and the team that has worked, among other things, Saltimbanco. Originally based on Greek and Roman mythology, the theme of mystery was finally summarized as "the history of the universe through all mythologies" and inspired by nature, wildlife and the evolution of man. It reveals the journey of a baby who is faced with different worlds and rites of passage. The music is composed first by Rene Dupere who wanted to make "ethnic", and then by Benoit Jutras, then music director of the show. The latter compound further extracts at different numbers changes occurred thereafter. By the way Dupara, it uses a style that also marks a new step for the company: the use of world music or world beat .
The design of Mystery was laborious part of the influence of financial issues relating to partnership with Mirage Resort, but also by the "culture clash" generated by the commitment of several professional athletes in charge of performing acrobatic acts by assuming the role characters. Shortly before the first of December 25, 1993, during a rehearsal, Steve Wynn admits unconvinced and even declared that it looked like a German opera. Despite these misgivings, the frame was preserved and the show met with quick success expected . More than 8.5 million entries have been recorded since .
In June 2009, Cirque du Soleil has announced the extension of the show until 2016, thanks to the support of the new hotel owner, billionaire Phil Ruffin.
