Cleaning And Organizing Your Entertainment Room

Entertainment options change frequently and we often find ourselves looking for newer

, better, bigger stuff. New televisions, movies, movie players, consoles and games always catch our attention. Sometimes we just have to get rid of some of the old stuff to make room for the new stuff.

Talking about organizing your entertainment room and making plans is probably much easier than actually executing the plan. The first thing you should do is create specific areas for movies and games. You could probably get rid of most of those VHS tapes because everything is now on DVD or BluRay. That's not to say that some of your old VHS tapes may not be worth money. Do your research first.

Create separate stacks for your favorite movies and games. Some titles are just there to stay; like they've earned their own private spot on your entertainment center. We all have our favorites, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with keeping those in a special area.

Prepare 3 boxes; label one "trash", one "donate", the other "sell", and begin filling them accordingly. Each movie, game or book you pick up should be examined for wear before you assign it to a box. Make sure things really are broken or trash before you place them into the "trash" box.

If you have old video games that you are unsure about, look for a consignment shop that will buy them from you. Some game shops look specifically for older games that may be collector items. You never know how much money one of your old games is worth until you ask.

Once you've finished placing old movies and games into boxes according to their new fate, organize your entertainment center shelves. Begin by cleaning the shelves with a cleaner that repels dust and a soft cloth. This will make your entertainment area shine like new.

Start by first placing your favorites in the location you've reserved for them. Next, place movies you watch frequently and games you play frequently in areas that offer easy access. Your goal is organizing your entertainment room so you don't have to go searching for your favorites. All of your favorite movies and games should be within reach but not cluttered.

Your last step is to place all of the other movies, games and books neatly on the shelves of your entertainment center. These are actually the items that will give your newly cleaned and organized entertainment room that refreshed look. Most of the titles you place in the rarely played or watched category will sit on the shelf until you decide you want to put them to use again.

Maintain the newly found uncluttered cleanliness of the room by using a soft cloth to lightly dust the surfaces of movies, games and shelves once a week. Make sure to pick up the movies and games and replace them when you've finished with them. Replacing them in their cases after use will maintain their playability and ensure you have them for future use. You will also receive more money later if you decide to sell them at some point.
