Client Attraction Made Easy
There is one issue that plagues Entrepreneur-Moms more than any other: How To Get Clients.
Attracting a steady stream of ideal clients who are loyal, long-term, and eager to pay for your services is the first key to a thriving business.
So... just how do you get clients? Some client attraction methods are less obvious than others but some might be right under your nose! Luckily, there are many entrepreneurs who have gone before you and zeroed in on the techniques that really work. Here are some great places to start:
1. Ask For Referrals
Sounds pretty obvious, but you'd be surprised how many people don't do this simple step. Your client base (both past and present) is the BEST place to get referrals for new clients. This group is familiar with what you offer, and should already be fans. But even though they are usually more than willing to refer you, they will not come up with the idea themselves. You have to ask them directly. So, to tap into this goldmine, send a letter or an email to each person on your list expressing that your business relies heavily on referrals, and specifically ask them "would you please take a moment to think of whom you might know who could benefit from my services?"
2. Utilize Your Email Signature
Another obvious one, but very effective. And it operates on autopilot! This allows you to be promoting who you are and what you to do anyone that you exchange email with, but in a subtle and appropriate way. Create a consistent email "signature" section that is automatically added to every email you send (set this up in your email's "preferences" section). List your name, a description of your service in the form of a title (i.e. The Million Dollar Coach, etc), your email and business website address, and some compelling copy encouraging the reader to go to your website to learn about your services or pick up a free sample. This way, anyone and everyone you exchange email with is going to see this signature at the bottom of your note. Another place this email signature comes in handy is when you frequent chat rooms or forums that cater to your target market. After reading your helpful post, viewers can't miss that signature area.
3. Be A Speaker
If you are someone who loves the idea of motivating and educating people in person, you can put together a presentation about your expertise and present it many different places. There are countless venues that are looking for interesting speakers: Colleges, Associations, Civic Organizations (Kiwanis, etc.), Public Libraries, and Chambers of Commerce. You can even find a colleague who is not a direct competitor, but who services the same target market as you do, and offer to do a guest tele-seminar or speaking engagement for their client list. Or create your own small event, either locally or via tele-seminar or webinar, and promote it to everyone you know. Don't worry about getting paid for any of these (yet), this is a "free taste" of what your offer and the more people who hear it, the better.
4. Create Joint Ventures
This also involves finding other professionals in related fields to yours that would have a database of your same ideal clients. Meet with them and ask to be "referral partners" for one another. For example, one of my clients is a coach whose work is empowering women during and after divorce. She created a network of divorce attorneys and mediators who recommend her services to their clients, and she recommends theirs to hers. You can also set up an official affiliate system so that these other professionals get a commission (or a referral fee) if anyone they send your way purchases any of your products or services.
5. Use Social Media
There are over 400 million active users on Facebook alone. You are probably one of them, and so is most of your target market. When it comes to your business, the most important use of FB and other sties such as Twitter, Linkedin, and MySpace is to create and nurture a relationship of goodwill with your clients and offer them valuable content. So, join targeted Facebook groups that cater to your particular audience, and be very active on their discussion forums. Invite people directly to your events. Use your Facebook Status to let people know about your new products and programs. Create a "fan page" to offer helpful content and so that clients can follow what you're up to. On Twitter, use tweets to establish rapport and offer value, but mix in occasional announcements about your programs or events. There are an infinite number of ways to use social media to create relationships and give value to your fans and clients, as well as to promote your outstanding products and services.
Attracting ideal clients is an ongoing process, of course, and the more that people hear of you or hear from you, the more they'll be likely to take further action with you. Remember that it's a "numbers game," - the more techniques your try, the better your results will be. So pick one of these 5 (or something else that appeals to you) and get going!
