CoSHH is an analysis and evaluation of all those factors which can be hazardous or harmful for the health of the employees at their workplace

. CoSHH is a classified section of risk assessment. It is the legal duty and responsibility of every employee to undergo this assessment. It is a study of all those factors and patterns which can affect your health and cause negative effects. This certain classification of risk assessment should include everyone working in the organization like the employees, the temporary workers, the general public and the contractors as well. A written record should be maintained to keep a record of all the significant findings. Additional safety measures should be taken for the vulnerable and weaker groups such as pregnant women.

According to the HSE there are five primary steps an organization should follow while undertaking an assessment. The steps are as follows-

Identify the level of hazards and danger associated with that particular work.

Identify the risks and establish suitable safety measures. Research and carry out a study on the risks.

Identify the people who can be more prone to the hazards.

Review and revise the risk assessment. Keep a check on the equipments, the workforce as well the task.

Record necessary points and weaknesses of the assessment. Work on those points and establish suitable safety measures.

Consider the following factors while taking decisions about the control measures-

Can the risk be eliminated or minimized by making suitable alterations at your work place.

The alterations that can be made in the plan.

It is necessary and important to inform and train the workers of the company to obtain efficient and resourceful results. This enhances the quality and thoroughness of the assessment plan.

The workers involved in the task should be allotted with some authority and responsibility as they are the ones with complete knowledge about the task.

Exposure to the danger should be managed by personal protective equipments, ventilation equipments and procedural controls.

Remember the degree of detail and information recorded during the assessment is relative to the degree of risks and hazards involved.
