In May when Jim Tracy came on board and took over the Rockies

, there were specific troubles that set about to straight out right away. There's no question that Tracy put in the work to help the Rockies take their game to another level. The baseball Writers' Association of America certainly thought so and awarded Tracy with the National League Manager of the Year Award. The accolades for a job well done didn't stop there though as Tracy finalized a three-year contract with the club which will run through the year 2012.

If more news regarding the Rockies is the order of the day, shortly after the release of the news of Tracy's contract, it was announced that the 2009 coaching staff, in its entirety, would be returning for next season. It came as a great finish to a really good season with Tracy at the head of this club. For the National League Manager of the Year Award, Tracy's competitors included Tony La Russa (STL), Joe Torre (LAD), Bruce Bochy (SF), Bobby Cox (ATL), Charlie Manuel (PHI), Fredi Gonzalez (FLA) and Bud Black (SD).

In 1995, Don Baylor was the first Rockies manger to win the award. Tracy also receive the top manager award from the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and The Sporting News. Thanks to Tracy's winning strategies, the Rockies set a club record in 2009 for wins in a season, 92-70. Noteworthy improvements in individual players includes Carlos Gonzalez, who went 10 for 17 and had a postseason home run, Ubaldo Jimenez who went 15 for 12 with 198 strikeouts and closed with a 3.47 ERA, Jason Hammel who closed with a 4.33 ERA and Jorge De La Rosa with a 4.38 ERA and 16-9 season finish. With so much momentum in the 2009 season, there's plenty of promise over the horizon for 2010 for the Rockies.
