Colored Led Strips For Ambient Lighting

LED production and manufacturing technologies have sufficiently advanced to the point

where their application to consumer lighting requirements are no longer expensive and can even be cheaper to purchase and operate when compared to other light sources. The combination of versatile lighting enclosures and deployments, like LED strip tape, and the availability of multiple colors and control systems make LED lighting a viable option for most lighting applications.

LED Light Generation and Power Requirements

LEDs or Light Emitting Diodes create light through and effect called electroluminescence where the semiconductor releases energy in the form of photons. Depending on the energy gap of the semiconductor, various colors of light can be produced that range from ultraviolet, visible, and infrared wavelengths. LED has been around for decades but its small size and the materials used made manufacturing a difficult process but recent innovations have made LED based products an affordable alternative for consumers and businesses alike.

Popular LED Deployment Types and Enclosures

There are two major ways to use LED lights popular among consumers and industries today. One is by using LEDs that are arranged so that they can be used with standard lighting enclosures used by incandescent lights, fluorescent lamps, and compact-fluorescent lamps. Like during the conversion period to CFLs from incandescent lights, following the standard makes changing over to LEDs easier with minimal need to change wiring and receptacles. The other way to use lights are LED strip tape that are basically a series of LEDs wired together and placed in an easy to deploy medium. This kind of application is more popular when using colored bulbs to produce special ambient light effects or backgrounds. Because they can be deployed in varying lengths and connected together in angles and curves, these light strips are great for unconventionally sized areas or custom applications.

Common LED Applications

Aside from being a regular light source, LEDs have proven to be a good tool for creating customized colored ambient lighting. Most light strips come with bulbs of standard colors like blue or green led lights and are wired internally so that the user will only need to attach the them to a power supply or directly to a power source. LED strip tapes can often be placed right along the hidden edges of recessed ceilings, inside product display boxes, or shelving. Unlike older ways to create colored ambient lighting like neon lights, these light strips operate without sounds and an extremely low power requirement that is a fraction of what older light sources required.

Todays LED and its deployment as bulbs and LED strip tape are representative of a growing trend towards more efficient, safer, and less expensive lighting products. By adopting this new technology, homes and businesses can have lower power requirements while retaining their look and feel with great lighting.
