No need of repeating devices: While using copper cable, signal amplifying devices called repeater are required to magnify the signal after travelling over a fixed distance. The use of these devices is eliminated in fiber cables as the signal wont require any magnification even after travelling long distances.
Enhanced security: Networks using copper cables always have certain loopholes by which the signals travelling through them can be tracked. Thus the information is not believed to be safe. The fiber optic cable uses a totally different technology to transfer the signals which is impossible to track. Tracking a signal travelling through these cables needs a physical intervention which can be easily seized by a good surveillance system.
Upgrading a network: Many times there is a need of expanding the capabilities of a network for adding more terminals or changing the location of the previous ones. This will require upgrading a network which is a very expensive and cumbersome task in case of copper cables. Whereas, fiber optic cable installation can be done very easily and cost effectively. This is due to the longer length and lighter weight of the fiber cables.
