Common Landscaping Myths That Could Ruin Your Garden

Water Your Lawn At Night To Conserve Water

Where this one came from no one really knows. Yes, many people do have a tendency to over water their lawns, but the time of day at which they do it is not part of the problem. In fact, by watering your lawn after the sun goes down can mean that the water will end up sitting on top of your lawn, potentially allowing lawn fungus and disease to develop.

The average lawn needs only half an inch to one inch of water a week and, for most climates, keeping it slightly damp during the middle of the day in summer is usually all it needs.

If you really want to conserve water go inside, call a plumber and have a low flow toilet and shower head installed in your bathroom instead.

If You Cut your Grass Shorter It Wont Need Mowing As Often

Obviously dreamt up by a teenager sick of cutting the grass, this is another big landscaping myth. When you cut grass too short you are robbing it of all its nutrients and its ability to flourish via photosynthesis. The grass struggles to maintain itself and eventually goes brown and dies. Then it doesnt need cutting at all but your garden looks dreadful.

Professional Landscapers Are A Waste of Money

Many people do not attach the same technical merit to the work of landscapers as they do to a plumber or an electrician. Sure, anyone can mow a lawn, but do you know how to choose the right plants, flowers and shrubs for the region of the country that your garden is located in? Do you know how to make sure they have the best chance of surviving the winter?

Contrary to many homeowners perceptions, professional landscaping is one of the most common, moderately-sized home improvements out there as it can make a huge difference to the level of curb appeal your home has.
