There are many reasons why people fail when it comes to affiliate marketing

. Usually, however, it comes down to one root cause things get tough and they give up. Like almost anything else, it is almost inevitable that you will run into roadblocks while trying to learn, but it is much harder to get through all of them if you end up putting up more roadblocks yourself.

Avoiding common pitfalls in affiliate marketing will help you to keep from putting roadblocks in front of yourself. While this list is far from comprehensive, below are three of the most common pitfalls you are likely to encounter:

1. Promotion Without Consideration

For many marketers, everything is about making a profit. To an extent, this is understandable, especially for someone who is or who wants to live entirely off the profits from an affiliate marketing business.


However, if you simply choose products and services to promote as an affiliate without any consideration, you will probably promote a bad one eventually. The problem with this is that once you do, your reputation can be badly tarnished, which can severely diminish your ability to earn an income through affiliate marketing.

This can easily be avoided by either promoting only those products which you have personally used or those used by people you know and trust. It is possible to also promote products which you have thoroughly researched, which seem to have impeccable reputation. While these may not guarantee against your promoting a bad product, not doing them almost guarantees that you will.

2. Failure To Build Relationships

In short, this is the proverbial list the each marketer is told he should build. If you are not building a list of contacts, whether through email or on a site like Facebook, or in some other way, then you are creating additional, unnecessary effort for yourself in the future.

To many affiliate marketers, building a list seems like a lot of extra work. This is doubly true when you consider that the list is useless without building a relationship with that list. However, what seems like more work in the beginning ends up reducing the effort required later on. While this may not be the deal-breaker that a ruined reputation can be, this one definitely is a very common pitfall many marketers fall into.

3. Having A Bad Attitude


This pitfall is the most dangerous one of all. Without a positive attitude, you are not likely to succeed at anything. A bad attitude, in this regard, can manifest itself in many different ways. And worse, this is the only one of the three that is directly fatal to your marketing career.

If you have a negative attitude, people will notice. Worse than that, however, is that you will be unlikely to work through any roadblocks you encounter if your attitude is that it isn't going to work. There are so many different aspects to this pitfall, there simply isn't room to cover them all here, but be certain that a bad attitude is the worst pitfall you are going to encounter.
