Computer Vision Syndrome

Computer Vision Syndrome

Computer vision syndrome is a temporary conditions resulting from focusing the eyes on a computer display for a long, uninterrupted period of time.

Few symptoms of working constantly in front of the computer are:

Eye Strain.

Headaches.

Blurred Vision.

Dry and Irritated Eyes.

Double Vision.

Watery eyes.

Tips for prevention of Computer Vision Syndrome :

Always use good light to read, choose fonts and colors with good contrast and the visibility to minimize strain.

Put the monitor of the computer or your laptop or tablets at a comfortable height so that it is approximately at the eye level.

If you use contact lenses, take care not to over wear the lenses.

Keep 20-20 principle in your mind. After working continuously in front of the computer for 20 minutes, keep your eyes closed for 20 seconds.

Protect your eyes from dust and avoid exposure to dust.

Treatment for Computer Vision Syndrome:

Get your eyes examined at regular intervals by an ophthalmologist.

You may be experiencing strain on your eyes due to a refractive error that is a spectacle number.

If this is the cause it is better to wear correction glasses, especially when you are working on computer.

Eye Care Tips for Children:

It is never too soon to take your child for an eye examination, as we can examine childrens eye even if they are unable to read letters.

You should aim to take children for their first eye examination at least by the time they are three years old, especially if there is a family history of wearing glasses.

Always make sure there is plenty of light when your child is doing some work like reading, writing, playing on computer.

Make sure they eat yellow fruits and green vegetables which contain vitamins and lutein-zeaxanthin which are very good for their eyes.

If your child is computer crazy or a bookworm ensure they take regular breaks from such close work. Although there is no conclusive evidence to suggest either activity causes visual problems or spectacle powers, they can certainly lead to tired, red and sore eyes.

When your child is playing certain sports, such as badminton, squash or swimming get them to wear protective glasses so they dont risk a dangerous eye injury.

Do not let them use eye drop without the consultation of an eye doctor.

To prevent from serious injuries, keep them away from sharp, pointed objects.

Make sure your kid wash his or her eyes with cold water slowly after coming in from playing in grounds, cycling or involved in any activities which is near or surrounded by dust areas.

Childrens having glasses should undergo eye checkups every 6 months till their glass numbers stabilizes.

Most common eye problem in childrens:

Glass Number.

Amblyopia or Lazy eye.

Squint.

Better to visit ophthalmologist once in a year for eye checkups who do not have numbers. Prevention is better.
