Consider Liposuction In Place Of A Tummy Tuck
Everyone struggles with weight loss
Everyone struggles with weight loss. It is difficult to stick to a diet and find the time and motivation to effectively exercise. The weight-loss industry offers a confusing plethora of tricks and aids that may or may not really help. And everyone has a different body type that won't respond to what works for other people. Finally, even for those people who succeed in living a health-oriented life and maintaining an ideal weight, there are usually a few extra pounds that diet and exercise will never erase.
For people like this looking to flatten their stomachs there are a few options, the best-known being the tummy tuck (or abdominoplasty). However, before resorting to the obvious answer, such people should consider abdominal liposuction.
Those who undergo the tummy tuck often have a hanging, fatty lower abdomen that they want removed. This usually occurs from excess weight gain or pregnancy that has stretched the abdominal muscles. Tummy tucks are very effective in tightening these muscles and thus removing the flab and any excessive loose skin. But liposuction is just as effective and often has better cosmetic appearance and safety.
Liposuction is actually the first step in the traditional tummy tuck. This procedure is used to remove the subcutaneous fat on the abdomen by making a small incision in which a solution of anesthetic and inserting a metal tube called a cannula. This cannula is attached to a vacuum that suctions away the fat. The surgeon then cuts a large piece of skin from the lower abdomen and sutures are used to tighten the abdominal muscles. Finally the wound is closed with staples or more sutures.
But for many people the first step of liposuction is enough. That procedure alone removes the fat that causes the unsightly bulge and often the extra step of tightening the abdominal muscles is unnecessary. However, if a patient is still not confident that the mere liposuction will be enough, they can have the tummy tuck performed in two procedures: the liposuction first and then the rest of the surgery about two months later. This allows the patient to determine the success of the liposuction and decide if they need further surgery.
This two-stage process is very effective. The vast majority of patients find that the liposuction alone achieves their desired look and the liposuction is much safer than the rest of the tummy tuck surgery.
Patients who are looking to loose excess abdominal fat often think to have a tummy tuck, and this is often the procedure that surgeons suggest. However, liposuction is just as effective and safer and therefore definitely worth considering.
