The Sin city LA also has the criminal law in place like any other state in America. An offense committed against the society or state is illegal under the law of the state. There is a minor difference in unethical act and a crime. Many crimes are unethical, but it's not essential that all unethical actions are wrong. The meaning of crime changes over time due to the change in social values therefore the law of the state changes with it. These are only the minor changes; however the basic foundation remains the same.

In many places around the world,, crime is handled by the judicial system. This system is made up of law enforcing agencies which mainly consist of the police department. The law enforcing agencies, like courts, impose punishments such as fines or imprisonment. The severity of a crime determines whether the culprit needs to be served an imprisonment or a death sentence. The penalty on few of the crimes may differ due to the difference of gender and age. A minor may not be punished as strictly as an adult would have on his crime. There is a separate section for juvenile delinquency in which a convict is dealt with in a different way.

Whereas capital punishment has been abolished from most European countries, Las Vegas, along with other American states, still inflict this penalty for the most treacherous offenses. For other non-capital offenses, there are other sentences such as imprisonment. The punishment could be loosen on the condition that the convict does not indulge in any such offense next time. After his bail, he still remains under surveillance for a set period of time.

Penalizing a convict in one manner or the other is a most distinctive part of judicial systems around the globe, but it's important that a punishment should not be a way of vengeance but in fact a fair means to eliminate evil from the society. Although, if it's meant for retribution, then most of the times you won't be able to see justice. Law is meant for the betterment of the society, and vengeance could not be defensible in this aspect as one could easily take law in his hands in vengeance. For this reason we have law enforcing agencies and the judicial system working in coordination to keep a check over illegal activities. Penology is supposed to improve or mend the criminal. During imprisonment, a criminal is trained and educated to make him a law following citizen before he is free to go back to the society.
