Cooking With Organization And Style
Everyone seems to be cooking again these days
Everyone seems to be cooking again these days. A few years ago I didn't have very many friends that made dinner on a regular basis, but now it seems that most people are making home cooked meals at least 3 times a week. The benefits to the family are unmeasurable. Time spent together eating, talking, catching up on each others day, discussing politics, school, teachers, friends form a child sense of security and belonging. Statistic are overwhelming; kids that eat with their parents are less likely to drink, smoke, do drugs, develop a eating disorder, get depressed, they typically do better in school and develop manners.
Most people are aware of the benefits of family dinner, but not everyone grew up with this ritual and are a little lost as to where to start. The Food Channel Network lights the interest of wanna-be-chefs and offers practical and gourmet options. I just wish I had the clean up and prep fairies that they do!
Other than TV, recipes often can be a little encumbering to organize. Recipe boxes don't hold very many, notebooks and three ring binders work fairly well but recipes can't be shared readily, sticky notes plastered to cupboards and refrigerators tend to fall off and get lost. The best system for organization is some kind of recipe software, availably almost anywhere. These softwares store, e-mail, organize, offer additions and even nutrition information on many recipes. Your personal recipes can be downloaded, scanned or searched.
Blogging cooks share their own creations, family favorites and tried and true recipes. These blogs are also a great place to find recipes the whole family will enjoy or something special for a dinner party. Some of my favorite recipes lately, have come from blogs of friends who love to cook.
You can literally google any recipe and a thousand variations will pop up. I rarely use my cookbooks anymore. It is all there at my fingertips, including my own recipes I have scanned and saved. It doesn't really matter how fancy the meal, whether it is prepared in 30 minutes or 3 hours, the important thing is to turn off the TV and eat dinner as a family.
