Cool Ways To Make Your Bathroom Lighting Better
When you design your new bathroom, lighting is very important
. Choose wisely because it really can make a big difference. And within the lighting type you choose, you also will have to choose the type of light that you want to emit from it. For example, track lighting usually needs a clear, bright bulb, whereas globed lighting requires softer or dimmer bulbs to attain the right effect.
Each bathroom design will have it's own needs, so you need to know what different options are available to you. This can vary depending on how big your bathroom is, where it's located, and what you're trying to achieve with the redesign. Below are the common types of bathroom lighting for the different bathrooms in your home:
Guest bathroom - As the name implies, this is the bathroom used by your guests and is typically small. Your guests will inspect the room, so your lighting choices must serve many functions.
Family Bathroom: Usually located in the hall by all or most of the bedrooms, it's typically a little larger than the guest bathroom and is generally best suited for task lighting.
Master Bathroom: The big one. This is the bathroom that usually gets the most attention when redesigning. Why? Because it's also a sanctuary; a place of rest and relaxation in many cases. There will be many different lighting choices for you in this room.
Regardless of whether you are redesigning one or many bathrooms, you have to be very precise about what you want.
Mood or Accent lighting - This type of light does exactly what the name implies, it sets the mood for the room and is usually subdued. It could be as simple as an over the vanity light on a dimmer switch, a small lamp or even some type of candle light. Note: never leave candles unattended. If you want the feel of candle light without the hazards, consider battery powered or electric candles.
Overall Lighting: When you first walk in, this is the "main switch" that provides the general lighting and is usually the brightest. Whether recessed, track, or globe lighting over the vanity, this lighting should be bright enough for mirror clarity, but generally should not be too bright.
Function lighting - When grooming or putting on makeup, a bright light is desired to get the job done well. Function lighting can be one or many, depending on how big your home is and how many bathrooms it has. Vanity mirrors, recessed lighting with a bulb angled to a specific area, or halogen are common.
Take time to do your research and the bathroom lighting you choose will enhance your bathroom design.
