Costa Del Sol Prepare For First Lady, Michelle Obama And Rumoured Presidential Visit
The self defined glamour capital of Europe prepares for a potential visit from the
president as least two Obamas are due to check in to Southern Spain next month.
First lady Michelle Obama and her youngest daughter Sasha, 9, are both due in the Costa Del Sol for a five day visit beginning on the 4th of August, President Barrack Obama's birthday.
The First Lady and child shall be staying in the luxury hotel villa Padierna in Benehavis, which is said to be 'fit for royalty'. Here they have booked a total of 35 rooms for friends set to be joining them and the considerable security entourage that will be accompanying them.
Then the two are due to take a private jet to Mallorca, where they are to spend the day at the Spanish King's Marivent Palace.
Vacationing in the Costa Del Sol, Michelle and Sasha Obama are to follow in the footsteps of Frank Sinatra, Tom Cruise and Sean Connery. Yet the big question on most lips here is, will the Costa Del Sol be adding a President to that list?
Though the white house insists that the American president will not be joining his family in Spain, rumours and speculation are rife here, and it is said that a birthday cake has already been ordered for their arrival, the night of the President's birthday.
Other sources have claimed that the president will be flying in to the US Air Force Base Moron de la Fontera, and from there will be choppered in to join the party at the coast.
In spite of the uncertainty Spanish Prime Minister Zaperto has already expressed his hope that the President may be flying through as he spoke to journalists earlier this week.
Michelle Obama's decision to holiday in Spain has been mildly controversial back home in the States, especially with the Whitehouse encouraging American to visit oil threatened Tourist hotspots like Florida. A columnist for the Washington post remarked there is a huge political downside to a White house family holidaying over seas. Yet the controversy seems to have changed as pundits relent with their views.
The Obamas are set spend a late August weekend in Florida, yet until then the hotel villa Padierna shall certainly keep them entertained. American security officials are set to arrive this week to veto the hotel grounds.
The Obama family are joining a growing trend of families choosing to holiday in Southern Spain's Costa Del Sol. The destination has remained prevalently one of Europe's most popular Tourist regions, remaining strong even in today's tough economic climate. Costa Del Sol villas have been one of the summer's most popular form of holiday accommodation.
While the Costa Del Sol remains a good value destination, with prices 20% cheaper than last year in a bid to attract the much needed tourists, it appears this is not what the Obamas are here for, their luxury hotel villa will set them back at least 250 Euros per night, per room.
