Cracked Ceramic Tiles

Sometimes you might notice a crack in the tile that just appears on the surface. Such cracks are tolerable and reparable. However, when you find out that a crack goes all the way down till the base, so then you can't probably mend it enough to keep it going on for a long while. Therefore, it is best to replace it.

A cracked tile might cause fluids to seep in and it could cause damage to other tiles as well. Gradually the entire structure would become weak and unreliable. So, do not waste time in thinking how to get the most out of it once it has been deeply cracked. Now, pulling off a tile isn't a very sweet piece of cake as you have to be real careful so as not to cause any impairment to the nearby tiles.

So, here's how you can go about it. Take a grout saw- a carbide blade on a handle- and dig out the grout from around the edges of the damaged tile. You should try moving the sharp edge to and fro above the grout lines and put your maximum weight on it so as to exert pressure and do the task effectively.

Next, you should put on your goggles and gloves for safety purposes. Then, stand the iron chisel in the middle of the tile at around 45 degrees angle. Please try using a really sharp chisel or otherwise it might take you a lot of time to do the task. Try striking it with the large hammer a few times to make a cavity in the middle of the tile. Now, use a glass cutter to create two diagonal lines on the center of the tile. Make sure they cross through the hole that you created before. Then, you are supposed to stand the tip of your iron chisel on one of the diagonal lines and hit it hard with a large hammer. Try hitting in the middle as a weak center would make the entire tile easy to break. If it's your lucky day, the tile might pop out quite easily but usually it doesn't. So, if it doesn't then what do you do? Well, keep on hitting on the iron chisel but at different points on the lines- after being done with the center thoroughly. Eventually, the tile would start breaking into pieces. Be sure to not pick them up with your bare hands as they might prick you or graze you or even injure you badly.

Use your gloves and get rid of all the shards. Next, use a razor scrapper to remove the cement left behind and any other debris that might be present underneath. In the end, use your hand held vacuum to clean the area absolutely so as to make the area ready for retiling.

So here was a very simple procedure of removing the tiles which can't be repaired and if done, they don't last long. Hoping, that you might not require all this effort, let's wish you luck!
