Credential Evaluation Required To Obtain An H-1b Visa

Foreign nationals can enter the US and work in a number of fields

, including architecture, modeling, medicine, engineering, and accounting, if they secure an H-1B visa. H-1B visa also allows its beneficiaries to apply for their Green Card.

If the foreign national has not completed his/her degree in the US, he/she should get a credential evaluation done to apply for an H-1B visa. The records of completion of education by a foreign national in another country can be converted to its US equivalency via the credential evaluation.

An equivalency statement of the degree completed by the foreign national, in addition to the details about the institution where the degree has been completed is required by USCIS to process the credential evaluation.

A foreign national who is applying for this temporary non-immigrant visa, is required to have a 4-year bachelors degree from a recognized foreign university or college. The total years of education of the foreign national, including masters degree, post-baccalaureate diploma can be combined in case he/she has less than a 4 year degree. Additionally, USCIS requires the foreign national to be sponsored by a U.S. employer.

The equivalency requirement can also be met by combining the foreign nationals years of education with the progressive work experience in the same field. According to the regulations, three years of progressive work experience makes up to one year of university study in the US.

The foreign national can obtain a credential evaluation with an evaluation from an officer who is authorized to grant college-level credit for either training and/or experience at an accredited college or university in the field that is submitted. Credential evaluation can also be obtained through the results of the accredited degree equivalency examination.
