Credit-Cards: More Important Than You May Realize

Credit cards are very useful to have if you know how to use them. Many people are scared to use credit cards because they are often times associated with interest, but they don't have to be. Interest does not happen automatically when using a credit card, in fact, if used properly, credit cards are not even supposed to accumulate interest! Interest only happens when the person using the credit card is irresponsible and puts more on the credit card than they are able to pay off each month. Therefore, you do not have to pay interest when using a credit card if you pay off your balance in full and on time each month.

There are ways you can help to ensure yourself that you will be able to pay off the credit card balance each month. You can set aside a certain amount of money for savings each month so if you run into trouble one month, (maybe one of those lovely unexpected surprises, such as your car tires running over nails and blowing up, or, heaven forbid, a medical emergency), you will be able to cover the extra cost. If unforeseen things get really bad, you may need to take out a loan. How will you do that if you don't have any credit? Using a credit card is the only way to build up good credit, so you may as well start practicing healthy habits now because chances are great that someday you may want to purchase a home (or another home), or perhaps another car when the one you have dies (or parts are falling off). With a loan, you will not be able to get a good interest rate unless you have good credit.

Credit cards also have so many perks, points, and discounts just from using them that it would be a true shame to not take advantage of them. As long as you are responsible and take measures to protect yourself by having a savings, (and a budget so you know exactly how much goes on the credit card each month), you can enjoy all the benefits of having a credit card without ever paying any interest for those benefits!
