Measuring for both outside mounted and inside mounted windows is similar, but having accurate measurements for inside mounted windows is extremely important. To measure for outside mounted blinds, homeowners will need to measure the width of the area that will be covered by the window treatment. Homeowners need to record 3 horizontal measures of width for each window, plus 3 on the vertical side - top, middle and bottom. An inch or inch and a half may need to be added to these measurements. For inside mounted windows, these same measurements need to be taken, and any inconsistencies in the window need to be addressed. When measuring horizontally, homeowners should be sure to use the smallest measurement. However, when measuring vertically, homeowners should use the largest measurement. This will ensure adequate coverage.
