The DTEA Senior Secondary School was initially registered with the Madrasi Education Association (MEA). The school was registered in 1919 by a group of Tamilians. The school was conceptualized as the group of tamilians wanted to teach their children traditional tamil values. In the year 1923, the first school was established.

The school community in Delhi raised funds for the second building. These schools are minority institutions that are owned and managed by the DTEA at Lodhi estate. The school is for the Tamils. The school is recognized by the directorate of education, Government of NCT of Delhi. Four languages are taught at the school. These languages are English, Tamil, Hindi and Sanskrit.

The DTEA Senior Secondary Schools are seven secondary schools that are located in New Delhi. The DTEA runs seven senior secondary school and these schools are located at Mandir Marg, Lodi Estate, Lakshmibai Nagar, Moti Bagh, Karol Bagh, R.K. Puram and Janakpuri. 75 years ago, a noble and dedicated teacher, for the Tamilian growth in the capital started an educational institution with one teacher and one student. Today the Delhi Tamil Education Association collectively provides education to 7,000 students and has a staff of around 500.

The DTEA Senior Secondary School at Lakshmi Bai Nagar is an important member of the DTEA family. The school was established as a middle school on 4th of August, 1958. The school was raised to Higher Secondary level in 1962. The foundation stone of the present building was laid on 10th of December, 1960 by Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. The school is from 1 to 12th standard.

The school has produced many intelligent educationists, scholars, scientists, engineers, medical luminaries, able administrators and defense personnel. The school is known for its discipline and total concern for its students. The school has made a good imprint on the society.

DTEA Senior Secondary School has a staff of over 50 teachers and has nearly 1100 students. The school offers courses in Science, commerce and Arts.

Children from different parts of the country, speaking different languages are studying in this school. The school symbolizes the spirit of national integration. The school has a very good infrastructure. The school is spread over a land area of 2.5 acres. The school has a pucca building with 36 class rooms, six laboratories, a well-equipped library, fully fledged computer lab and a big basket ball court in the play ground.
