He was born in the year 1935 and was named as Lhamo Thondup in a small village of Taktser in the province of Amdo. His major fight is to free Tibet and for the struggle truth, justice and courage are the weapons.
Dalai lama tour includes Dharamsala, which is situated in Himachal Pradesh. The Tibetan settlement of Dharamsala began in 1959, when His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who had to flee Tibet along with the Tibetans, was given Meclodgeganj (in Upper Dharamshala), which was once a British hang out zone. when Dalai lama left Tibet and came to India, the then prime minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru offered to permit him and the other Tibetans who came with him to stay in Dharamsala. All this happened in the year 1960. The place has been connected to Hinduism as well as Buddhism for a very long time and there are many monasteries n the area which was built by Tibetan immigrants in the 19th century. The town is also known as "little Lhasa", after the Tibetan capital city. so Dharamsala became his new home of refuge.
The place has got a beautiful landscape and it is a very peaceful hill station which today is a tourist spot. People chose Dharamsala for tours as the place is very refreshing and the fresh and natural air of the place fills a persons mood with solace. This small town has a large Tibetan refugee settlement and here one can see a large number of monks in their traditional attires and the main monastery is the Namgyal monastery or known as the Dalai lama temple.
Sikkim in India is another place where we can find a large number of Buddhist followers. Some of the oldest monasteries are situated here in Sikkim, Gangtok and Darjeeling.
