Dating Advice - How Traditions Helped Me To Learn How To Be A Better Man

Have you ever heard of "Chr-anksgiving"? Probably not

, I think I coined the term myself. My girlfriend thinks I should have called it "Th-istmas". Either way the concept is pretty simple. All it means is that this year Thanksgiving and Christmas will get celebrated on the same day (today). Now why would we do that? Well my Brother and his wife are about to leave for Africa and they will be gone through Christmas. So if our family was going to have a shot at Christmas together today was it. So we ate turkey and exchanged gifts on the same day.

Here are some high points of the day that I think we could all learn something good from:

The power of family is huge never look down on it. I was told tonight that today was the first time my girlfriend had ever spent a holiday with a boyfriend's family. rarely have I experienced a better time to bond and really get to understand each other. Family is a huge part of any romantic relationship. Don't ever forget that. Remember that family, even though we don't always like them, are the people we are supposed to love and cherish the most.

It truly is better to give than to recieve, please remember that. We put a plan into place a few days ago that ended in my brother getting tickets to one of the biggest college football games in the state. My brother is a huge football fan. In the end my brother actually shed tears he was so touched by what we had done. I have never seen him do that. It was moving to see him so happy by something that we could provide for him. I loved all my gifts, they were great, but none of them compared to seeing my brother get those tickets. It really is better to give than receive.

Never forget that we need to love people while we can because tomorrow isn't promised. After all the gifts were opened somehow we got into looking at old video tapes of past family times. My Dad passed away 4 years ago from cancer, but he was in the videos today and on my heart a lot for the rest of the day. My parents were married for 40 years. That is something that you rarely see anymore. The time is passed for that, I can no longer express my love for him. We never know when it might be the last time we are going to see someone. Always remember to love people right now, because it could be the only chance you will get.

"Chr-anksgiving" was wonderful this year. I had a Merry Thanksgiving and I hope you did as well. I hope you took some time to think of the things you are thankful for. I hope you took some time to do something for people who have less to be thankful for than you do. That is where the true fulfillment comes from, not from great gifts, but from the great relationships that we develop during these times together as a family.
