Dealing With The Change A Students Guide To College Life
Children from birth undergo a series of changes- physical and psychological
, both. By the time, a child finishes high school he or she has faced a continuum of changes to mature and understand higher levels of social dos and donts. Yet it is rather hard to comprehend what goes through a child graduating from high school to college. This is a tough time for most kinds, since at such a juncture, a child is almost grown but not an adult and he or she is also undergoing many hormonal changes.
The effects this transition has on a child are very effective in the long run, because it will mould the child to be a stronger, much mature and level-headed person in future.
1. Decision Making-
Ever since you learnt the first word, you have only followed orders. What parents tell you to do and not to. This shall change, once you enter college; as you are a grownup who needs to make his or her decisions.
What subjects will you major in and how much more will you study. All these are important decisions which you learn to make when you pass out of high school.
2. Finances-
Once you have decided your subjects to major, a very important aspect of the education is finances. Not only the parents, but even children today are expected to cover the tuition fee and college requirements. Such situations make a student understand the importance of money in life.
3. Distancing from Parents
Finishing high school means, leaving all your comforts and habits behind; like finding a new accommodation in a new place for college life to commence. Sometimes, a child is very close to the parents and it is harder for them to distance out. But in the long run, the student learns to stand up on his or her feet and become much more independent.
4. Becoming Independent
Leaving parents, high school and adapting to a new surrounding makes children stronger and less vulnerable. One becomes independent, and understands the rights and wrongs and learns how to take decisions for him or herself.
5. Looking for a Job along with completing Education
Along with education, if you find a job you can fasten your experience and earn your living. At such an age, children must learn it the hard way. It toughens the lad to face more difficulty in life. A number of British Columbia based colleges offer on campus jobs to their students to instill values and promote financial independence.
6. Prioritizing education and studying further or gallivanting and wasting time
However, when you see new college life, you should not be distracted and gallivant with friends. One must be focused and organize his or her actions around making a better future. New friends and exposure can make a child lose focus. But, if a student concentrates and prioritizes his or her education, then everything will fall in place. - Education, job and secure future.
College life teaches students many things. Learn to save money, study before it is too late and also helps you understand the essence of life. More importantly, parents need to support their children as they mature and learn the art of living life, dealing with problems and most significantly, solving them!
