. First of all you need to learn some of the basic HTML coding. The beginners always need to learn to code HTML while working in programs like Dreamweaver and FrontPage. Generally it does not happens, and not all the time. These programs are very useful and the designers are highly recommended to learn to use at least one, there do have their limitations where you need to make the coding yourself. Not having knowledge of HTML in this case would be a problem. You dont need to learn everything about HTML, just the basics and some key tags are important that are used all the time in website design.

The link tag is most important of all, as HTML is all about linking documents and web pages together and this is the basis of making the web work. Another is table tag; it is used to create tables. Initially it was invented to present data like a report in a tabular form. After some time, HTML designers started to use them to format the entire web pages by inserting text and images both into tables. Today almost all the web pages of websites are formatted using tables. Div tag is used to demark a portion of your web page, after demarking a page you can try and do anything to it, whether style it, animate it, make it visible or invisible etc. div tag is superior to the table tag in many ways, as it represents the next generation of formatting the HTML pages.

The website design programs/ softwares like Dreamweaver or FrontPage should be learnt properly as each of them has their own advantages and you may be tempted to jump from one to another. Sometimes you miss features of the old program after shifting to the new program, so you should stick to and learn a single program very well, which can take you a long way making you a productive and efficient web designer.

Once you have understood how to make new web pages, you will be tempted to step out with animated gifs, rollover affects and fancy designs. Websites are always in need of changing and updating pages, this may lead to some problem of confusing pages for the viewer and thus its hard to maintain the site for you. So you will be thankful when you would learn the program and will be easily able to update a modular site without any mess.
