Desk Top Lighting: Three Things that will prevent Your Eyes from Hurting

When working with a computer it is common that your eyes will be affected by light from the screen of your computer, however there are several things which you can do to minimize the effects of desktop lighting. These will help you to be more ergonomic with your desktop.

The first thing that you need to do and which is the easiest of them all is taking breaks after some time. You can plan to take a break of five minutes after every one hour. These breaks will contribute a lot in minimizing eye strain. These breaks will also add to your productivity because they will help in refreshing the mind. This is something that every one can be able to do and it will have minimal effects on ones capacity to work effectively.

The other very important point is checking the lighting in your room. The lighting in your room should also be controlled. The light in the room where the desktop is placed should not be too bright because this may result in reflection and this may add a lot of strain to the eyes. The desktop should be placed in a place where reflection cannot occur even from external light sources outside the room. The lighting in the same room should not be too low because this will result to straining of the eyes too.

The other thing that can be done to make your desk top lighting more ergonomical is by placing the desktop a few inches away from your eyes. When the desk top is placed between 20-25 inches away from you it ensures that your eyes are not strained when looking at the screen. The level of the screen should also be a little bit lower than your eyelevel to minimize strain on your neck to prevent neck soreness. When an anti glare screen is fixed in a desktop monitor it also minimizes the effects of direct light significantly.

When one works for long hours with a computer the tears in the eyes are used up and the eyes become dry as a result of constantly looking at the screen. You can try to make your eyes wet using any moistening substance. Artificial wet substances are also available and they can also be used for that purpose. The use of an ergonomic desktop in an ergonomic work station ensures that eye problems are prevented and high productivity of workers is achieved.
