. Developing self esteem and projecting a confident and positive attitude can lead to personal and professional success beyond your wildest imaginings.
Poor self esteem effects different people in different ways. Some become paralyzed in both their personal and professional lives, finding themselves unable to develop their own personality or presence in the world. These people are followers and no leaders because they don't trust themselves to take a proactive role in their own life. Fortunately, developing self esteem can change all that. This isn't about ego, but having the confidence in oneself and your ability to contribute to the lives of others in a personal and professional manner.
1 - What are you good at? Get out a piece of paper and make a list of everything that you are good at. Whether it is cooking a good meal or being an excellent driver, focusing on your positives rather than your negatives will put you in a more positive frame of mind.
2 - Give yourself a pep talk. This may sound silly, but every day get up and tell yourself that you are going to have a good day, that you are going to achieve a certain goal and that you are going to do something nice for yourself. Having a daily mantra is very helpful for focusing the mind and giving yourself purpose for the day. Eventually you won't have to talk yourself into doing things, you will simply be able to.
3 - Take care of yourself. This is an expansive area. You want to take care of yourself physically by eating well and exercising, dress well, buy yourself the proper grooming supplies and use them! When you look, smell and feel good, it is difficult not to think about yourself in a positive light.
4 - Take care of others. Treat other people with respect. It may sound odd, but most people project to others how they feel inside, being positive towards others makes it easier to be positive towards yourself.
5 - Speak up for yourself. Everyone who needs some self confidence thinks that their opinion has no merit. Anytime someone asks for your opinion, give it, don't hold back (but be nice). Make a pact with yourself that you won't get upset if they dismiss it; just focus on the fact that they wanted it in the first place.
