Diamond Engagement Rings: How To Make Them Appear Larger

Every man wants to purchase the perfect diamond engagement ring for his future bride

. We see celebrities adorned with large diamonds that go from joint to knuckle. What women could honestly turn down a pink diamond with a large carat weight? But we're not all celebrities. We're not all rich. Most men are on a budget and at the end of the day, it isn't the size or weight that matters. It's about how much you love the other person. That doesn't mean you can't be jewelry savvy though and learn a few tricks that will make diamond engagement rings appear larger than they really are.

An easy way to make a diamond appear larger is to choose a diamond with a "fancy" shape as opposed to just a round diamond. Even if the diamonds are of equal weight, the non-round diamond will look smaller. Elongated shapes especially look bigger, such as a marquise, oval, and pear shaped diamond. Keep in mind how the shape will look on her fingers though. Not everyone can pull off a marquise diamond nor does every woman like that shape to begin with so keep those factors in mind.

Choose a pave-set diamond. A pave setting is made up of small diamonds set side by side. Their surface is about level with the main diamond which makes it look like a continuous surface of diamonds. The diamonds are held in place by tiny beads crafted from the ring's metal. The continuous look makes it difficult to distinguish the individual diamonds, therefore enlarging the overall look. However, more intricate pave settings can be expensive so figure out if it is actually cheaper to purchase a larger diamond.

If you cannot afford the pave setting, try an illusion setting instead. The diamond is mounted to a mirror-like plate before it is set in the band. Not only will the diamond look bigger, it will shine with more brilliance. The only downside to these diamond engagement rings is that they are more difficult to repair.

Similar to the pave idea, choose diamond engagement rings with diamonds on the side. Small diamonds on the side will take the focal point away from the center diamond. She and admirers will be drawn to the ring as a whole rather than just the main diamond.

Lastly, consider a bezel set diamond. A bezel set is one in which a rim encircles the diamond. White gold and platinum will blend with the diamond, complementing it and making it appear more brilliant and larger than it really is.
