Diamond Sawing Operation Education: Usage/recommendations

For a successful diamond operation requires the understanding of how to use the diamond blade for your material and application

. Following the basic recommendations such as Inspection, RPM, Safety and more, it can help you perform the diamond sawing job easier, obtain a smoother finish, minimize damage to your material and extend the life of your diamond saw blade. However, selecting the right diamond blades parameters may involve a trial and error process. What works for one application, may not work for another. Highly experienced diamond blade users may also find some variations in diamond blade life or performance while working on same material and application for years. The following recommendations will prove useful to find some variations in diamond blade life. These recommendations have come from years of research, development and experience in manufacturing precision diamond saw blades and products.

Inspection

Before making cut, you must visually examine the blade for cracks or any other possible damage. Misused blades, incorrectly mounted blades or damaged blades can be fatal to use. If, for some reason, you feel there is a manufacturing defect; please return the blade with a note of explaining its defect to the manufacturer.

Cutting Speeds

Depending on the outside diameter of the blade, application and equipments, RPM's will vary. It is imperative to run blades at the proper RPM's and the diamonds exposed through dressing. As a general rule of thumb, for soft materials RPM should be increased and for hard and dense materials, RPM (cutting speed) should be decreased.

Safety

Always wear proper safety equipment: safety footwear, snug fitting clothing, safety goggles, hearing and head protection, and respiratory equipment. Do not remove these safety devices. They are for your protection. While performing diamond sawing operations, it is impossible to mitigate all the possible hazards that the operators encounter during performing diversified sawing operations while wearing certain safety equipments.

Securing your material while cutting

It is highly imperative that the part of material you are cutting is hold securely in place so it does not move. If it moves, it may break the diamond section of your blade. Doing is fatal, and your material will chip.

Flanges

A pair of same size flanges with proper relief should be about 1/3 the diameter of the blade. They must be free of rust and dirt. Your blade will turn perfectly after you tightened the flange cut. Avoid using blades that either rattle or wobbles on the saw. For ultra thin diamond wheels, you should use flange size of 3/4 outside diameter of the blade. As a general rule of thumb, the largest possible flange diameter should be used always.

Do not exert pressure on Diamond Blade

Increasing pressure on the diamond blade will reduce the time it takes to perform a job. However, will also cause your blade to overload and overheat. Applying excessive pressure not only cause the blade to overheat but also heats up the material being cut, causing unwanted material cracks and deformation. If you witness the dark "burn" marks around the diamond section, the cutting speed you are using would be either too fast, or you are applying unnecessary pressure to the blade. When the cut is near completion, reduce pressure on your blade considerably.

Saw care and maintenance is a key to ensuring optimum sawing performance. If your sawing operation is not satisfactory, make sure that your saw blade is not damaged or misaligned, that your material is securely held in place, that you are using the proper drilling speed and pressure, and also that you are using the right amount of coolant and all necessary sawing accessories. By following these basic recommendations, you can help ensure that your sawing process will be strictly controlled and problem-free.
