Did Julia Roberts Get Liposuction?

These days, all sorts of celebrities are getting liposuction (also known as lipoplasty and suction lipectomy)

. Actors and actresses, musicians and models, celebrities both old and young, both men and women are being rumored to have undergone this procedure, which helps to remove fat from specific parts of the body.

One famous actress who has attracted the suspicions of many is Julia Roberts. Roberts, who is both a famous actress and the mother of three children, attracted reporters' interest at the beach in early May of last year. Although Roberts looked amazing as usual, some reporters noted signs that they thought pointed toward liposuction.

These reporters pointed to Roberts' abdominal region. There, they said that the skin was puckered and the bellybutton a bit stretched out. Surgeries such as lipoplasty can definitely have effects like this. A puckering effect to the skin can be a sign that a lipoplasty has been performed but that the fat removal was uneven or otherwise problematic.

Of course, being a mother and going through pregnancy, childbirth and the subsequent loss of baby weight can also cause similar effects, so it's hard to tell for certain what has caused this appearance. One doctor stated his opinion that Roberts "does not appear to have had any surgery. . . . Julia must have a balanced diet, exercise regimen and good genetics to look so great after 3 children."

However, although this doctor sees no evidence of cosmetic surgery, some others disagree. One doctor pointed to "significant skin tightening on her abdomen compared to previous pictures" as proof of surgical work. After stating that he did not believe that Roberts had undergone an abdominoplasty or tummy tuck, he noted that it was very possible that she could have undergone a lipoplasty. He concluded, "whatever she did, it worked."

Regardless of what small blemishes she may have, though, most people agree that Roberts is still looking great. Acquiring some minor blemishes is pretty common as one ages (and frequently some major ones!), and there is something to be said for being able to accept that gracefully.

For people who are considering undergoing liposuction, it is important to have realistic expectations. Like Julia Roberts (if she did indeed undergo the surgery), there can be the possibility of developing some amount of blemishing. People should know what kind of effects they can look forward to after the surgery. Be sure to keep all this in mind before reaching a final decision.
