Diet tips to follow before joining a weight loss program
Most of the people when they think of going for a diet they don't think of nutrition but "what will make me skinny?" Your main focus should be on healthy living with healthy food choices.
If you have a balanced eating plan you can give your body all the energy and nutrients it needs to function properly. You can give your body energy by eating three nutrients: carbohydrate, protein and fat. Additional dietary elements your body requires are water, vitamins and minerals. Here are a few diet tips that will help in losing weight before you join the weight loss camp.
Six a Day:
One of the best ways to shed unwanted pounds is to spread your meals throughout the day so that you never go more than two or three hours without eating. This will help break the "starve and stuff" cycle that creates blood sugar highs and lows. This cycle is the reason we are shaky when we are very hungry and tired when we are very full. If you have six meals a day your blood sugar will be steady so that you do not experience these highs and lows. Go in for fiber rich foods like whole grains, fruits, vegetables.
Portion Size:
There is an easy way out to remember how much to eat at a meal is to use the plate method. Fill half your plate with vegetables, one quarter with protein (chicken, lean meat, fish, etc), and one quarter with a starch (rice, potato, pasta, etc).
Water:
Drink lots of water every day.
Exercise:
Don't forget about exercise. Taking care of the "Energy out" portion of your weight loss program is a lot easier when you exercise. Try a new sport, join a gym or fitness center or walk around your block.
Maintain a Food Diary:
You may think that you're barely eating, but the scale says differently. There's one sure way to keep yourself honest; keep a food diary or journal. Most veteran dieters recommend keeping a diary or journal of what you ate, how much you ate, when and where you ate. Some weight loss experts recommend recording your emotional state too.
Get enough sleep:
If you don't get enough sleep it can affect hormones that may help you gain weight.
Eat breakfast:
Eating breakfast gets you off to a good start and helps most people stick to their diet.
Eating balanced, wholesome meals and snacks does not have to be difficult. It takes planning like having an apple on hand instead of a candy bar when you need a quick snack on the run. Pay attention to what you're eating. Before you know it eating more healthfully will become second nature and your mind and body will thank you.
