Different Eyelid Surgery Techniques Correct A Number Of Problems
The eyes are the windows to the soul...or so they say
. If that's the case, you want beautiful window dressings. If you aren't happy with your lids, you could wear sunglasses all the time, but that isn't very practical. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, could be the solution to your problem.
Droopy, baggy eyes make you look tired and older than your years. You could just be unhappy with the overall look of your lids. Whatever the problem, there is a technique that corrects it.
1. Upper Eyelid Surgery- Excess skin and puffiness can be fixed with this technique. The surgeon removes the excess skin that "hoods" the eye and removes the fatty deposits causing the puffiness.
Liposuction with a micro-cannula can be used to remove this fat. This technique is also called a lift because the results give you that lifted and awake look.
2. Lower Eyelid Surgery- Bags and puffiness are addressed with this procedure. Like the upper eye technique, excess skin and fat is removed. Now, this procedure does not correct dark circles.
3. Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty- This procedure is typically performed on younger patients who still have good skin elasticity around the eye and people who have the puffy fat but not the excess skin. The incision for this procedure is made inside the lower lid and, instead of liposuction; the fat is manually removed with a tiny extraction device. No skin is removed during this procedure.
4. Ethnic Blepharoplasty- An Asian eye is noticeably different from a "Western" eye. What is known as the orbital septum is not visible in the Asian eye because it extends down to the edge of the lid. While maintaining the beauty and integrity of the unique shape of the eye, a plastic surgeon can create a fold in the lid.
While this gives a more Western appearance, the change is minimal. The patient ultimately determines just how drastic of a change she wants.
If you are thinking of having the procedure, you should be aware of the risks involved. Chronic dry eye, corneal abrasion, hollow eye, difficulty closing the eyes, blurred vision and, though very rare, blindness. To avoid these complications you should begin the process by choosing the right surgeon.
He must be board certified and experienced in the specific technique you are interested in. Do this and your risk is greatly reduced. During the consultation, be clear about the results you are looking for. You want it to look as natural as possible.
After the procedure, people won't think you are tired all the time and you may actually be able to see better depending on the corrected problem. All of these procedures can be done alone or to enhance the results of other facial cosmetic procedures.
