Different Kinds Of Hand Sanitizer
Hand sanitizer generally comes in an alcohol based or alcohol free version
. In the alcohol based version it's the alcohol itself that is effective in killing up to 99.9% of germs. However the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that the alcohol based versions contain at least 60% alcohol for it to be effective. It is also important to note that the sanitizers cannot kill viruses because viruses cannot technically be killed. However they are effective in killing bacteria and make your hands a less hospitable environment for viruses. Some of the viruses it prevents may be flu virus, common cold virus and HIV and it's also notably effective against the rabies virus. The non alcohol version contains an active germ fighting ingredient called benzalkonium chloride and is also effective in killing germs that lead to illness.
Popular brands of sanitizer that contain alcohol are Tazza, Baccide, Avant, Purell, Aquim, Germ-X, Method and Lysol. Popular brands of sanitizer that do not contain alcohol but instead utilize benzalkonium chloride are Ultimate, Handclens, MicroArmor, Hy5, Tazza, SoapPopular and Gold Bond. When shopping for the sanitizing products you will see that some contain moisturizers. If you shop around you will even find that some have fragrances.
A concern that arose from the use of sanitizer is the drying out of the hands usually as a result of using the alcohol versions. Not only has it been proven that soap and water dries your hands out more than sanitizer, but manufacturers have been producing luxury lines of the sanitizing products. They tend to contain essential oils and for improved skin care. You can find these types of products under the brands of The Body Shop, Jao, EO, Frais, Burt's Bees and more.
Generally hand sanitizer is sold in the form of a gel, liquid, foam or wipe. The type of sanitizing product you purchase is based on your personal likes or dislikes. However, the sanitizer should remain on your hands for at least twenty seconds for it to get the full exposure needed for it to be effective. It is also comes in various different types of packaging. From small keychain versions in plastic bottles, to large pumps and even automatic hand sanitizer dispensers you'll see the germ fighting gels everywhere you turn!
