Dinosaur EggsA Parable Of Following Through,Keep going until you get the whole egg!

Have you ever had one of those moments when you realized you just missed a great opportunity? Well let me tell you about my last one. I went hiking with a close friend last Saturday. We actually took our horses and rode for about an hour and a half up this beautiful canyon in Western Utah, right on the edge of the west desert.

The trail takes you up this wide canyon and tops out in a saddle about 6,300 ft in elevation. From that point the world just drops away to the valley floor on the far sidethe view is amazing.

We hiked from there up anther 2,000 feet or so. As we started our descent I looked down and found a rock that looked just like a dinosaur egg. The egg was encased in some shale and it looked exactly like an egg that had been split right down the middle so you could look at the inside of the egg. Now, I am not a paleontologist so I am not positive it was a dinosaur egg but, I thought my wife and kids would get a kick out of it. So I threw the rock in my pack and headed home.

When I got home I showed my wife and I was so excited but you will never believe what she said, "Where is the other half?"

I said, "What?"

"Well," my wife replied, "it's like you were walking around and found half of a million dollar bill. It's nice but it would have been a lot better with the other half!"

I have to admit I laughed pretty hard about the whole thing but my wife brought up a very valid point. How many times have you ever seen something like that and thought, "Wow that's amazing!" You grabbed it but then you forgot to do the other half. Like starting your education but never finishing; starting a project but getting distracted half way through; writing down your goals but then never doing anything with the list?

I encourage you to not stop half-way. Keep going until you get the whole egg!
