The renowned Museu Nacional D'Art de Catalunya showcases an extensive selection of visual art that's free to view for everyone on the first Sunday of each month. With the emphasis on classic Catalonian art, you can also enjoy massive collections from Romanesque classics and Renaissance art to keep you there all day as well!

The Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art, or MACBA, has workshops for free, the Study Center, Library Reading Room and Special Collections Room have a huge collection of books, publications and archives you can look at for free too.

The city's parks provide a relaxing respite from the busy city, look out for the Parc de la Ciutadella, the largest in the city and fantastic for winding down in its tranquil surroundings, perfect for relaxing picnics, whilst Parc Guell will rouse your senses with its enchanted structures. Designed and built in 1900 to 1914 by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi, Parc Guell has facilitated unusual materials and forms are strongly influenced by nature.

There are also plenty of ecclesiastical marvels and historical monuments to see for free, and the architecture includes imposing churches, a strong Modernista style, and ancient Gothic mansions that are there to be admired. The Santa Maria Mar Church, one of the most beautiful Gothic churches in Barcelona, is a fine example of how exquisite Gothic designs can be particularly when the light streams through its clerestory windows.
