Cornwall is well known for its abundance of incredible bird and sea life. The natural environment made up of wooded valleys, wetlands and coastal cliff ledges make it the perfect place for many nesting birds, including the majestic peregrine falcon. The Camel Estuary and the Bude marshes, particularly, are brimming with colonies of migrating birds during the spring and autumn.

The coastal waters are thriving with sea life and it is not uncommon to spot basking sharks, seals and dolphins swimming close to the shore. One of the best ways to explore the waters is to try a little sea kayaking, something you can do from most beaches in the area. Or maybe you would prefer to get more "up close and personal" and try snorkelling close to the shore. If you explore the rocky coastline underwater you are likely to come across sea bass, Pollock and mackerel. There is nothing more special than becoming part of this unfamiliar, but inviting environment.

Crantock Beach, made up of giant sand dunes, caves and sparkling waters is a wonderful place for exploring rock pools. These natural aquatic pools are home to an array of different marine plants and several species of smaller fish.

The north of the county offers many opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast. The hills here make cycling a real adventure and a great challenge. The roads are quiet and there are myriad little country lanes that link the tiny, quaint Cornish villages. For off-road cyclists, Bodmin Moor has some excellent cross country tracks, or for a gentler mountain bike experience the Camel Trail is perfect. Regardless of your ability or cycling aspirations you can enjoy the stunning countryside at your own pace.
