One landmark in any city that draws local folks and travelers to its beauty is the water fountain. When I visited Rome several years ago, I was amazed at water fountains in St. Peter's Basilica and all throughout the city of Rome. Some of Rome's famed fountains have been in existence since time immemorial; standing close to it can make you feel the layers upon layers of fascinating history on them.
The water fountain in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia called King Fahd is one of the tallest in the world. The water shoots up to 1023 feet, similar to the height of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France.
The Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada is home to another great fountain. Las Vegas' attractions are plenty and one will never run out of things to see. The water fountain at the Bellagio Hotel offers a stunning display of choreographed routines and a show of lights in many colors. The water fountain expands up to 460 to 1200 feet. It is a famous backdrop in many movies, TV programs, and photographs.
Singapore's city of Suntec's shopping mall is host to the Fountain of Wealth. The Guinness Book of Records considered as the largest fountain in the world. It is made of bronze and has five towering blocks. Suntec's City Tower Buildings represents the fingers and thumb and, the fountain itself forms the palm of the human hand. At night, the fountain lights up for a laser show.
Sydney, Australia is home to the Archibald Fountain. Built in 1932 to serve as remembrance of the partnership between France and Australia during World War II, it is the most favored fountain in Sydney. The fountain's design is a combination of Greek and Roman arts and literature, which is highlighted in the bronze figure of Apollo. A French sculptor called Francois Sicard designed the fountain.
Located in the All Russian Exhibition Center in Moscow, Russia, is the People's Friendship Fountain. It is also called as the Friendship of Nations, octagonal in shape and has 16 gilded maiden statutes dressed in their national customs representing the former Soviet Union.
In Geneva, Switzerland is the home of Jet d'au Fountain. Similar to the Bellagio fountains in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jet d'au Fountain often grace the pages of Switzerland's tourist information. One of the oldest fountains in the world is The Big Wild Goose Pagoda, built in 652 during the Tang Dynasty. The fountain is located in the suburb of Xian City. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda is famous for its longest light show.
The last of the world's fountain is called the Magic Fountain of Montjuic, it is located between Placa d' Espanya and the National Palau in Barcelona, Spain. The fountain was built by Carles Buigas in the late 1920s. It has one of the most spectacular displays of motion, light, color and water acrobatics.
