Do Employers Consider Online Medical Transcription Schools A Valid Way To Train?

Online training to become a medical transcriptionist sounds very appealing to many people

. You can pretty much study at your own pace and at the times convenient to you. No stress about driving to class and wondering how parking is going to be this time. You can even keep working your current job while learning a new skill.

The big concern you may have is whether or not you can get a job after graduating from an online medical transcription school. Aren't you risking being scammed? How do you know that the online school is any good at all?

Truth be told, this can be a problem even with schools you attend in person. Not all of them offer training good enough to get you work as a medical transcriptionist. They'll teach you something, certainly, but it may not be good enough.

The easiest way to learn if a program is good at what they do is to see if they have AHDI Approval. The AHDI is an association of medical transcriptionists and other healthcare documentation workers, and it reviews medical transcription programs for the quality of the training.

A school on their list is one that is far more likely to give you the quality of training needed to get a job. Any school, online or otherwise can get AHDI Approval if their training is good enough.

As far as I know, the best medical transcription schools are online. At the very least, the ones I always hear reported as having the best reputation with employers are online. This may in part be due to it being easier for an online school to gain a national reputation, as graduates can come from anywhere in the country.

You can also contact employers and ask them. Some online medical transcription schools are partnered with some employers. I would consider that a good measure of trust in their training as well, so long as the school and employer are not owned by the same individual or company, as happens with certain scam programs.

Be picky about the school you choose to begin your medical transcription training. It's the first step in your new career. Get it wrong and you will have a much harder time finding work after graduation.

One you've chosen a quality course however, your own efforts will determine how good a program it is for you. Work hard and learn your new skills thoroughly, and you should do well. Try to do the minimum to get by, and even a highly rated course may not prepare you as well as it would someone else. Even when you go to a trusted school, you still have to pass that employment test. If you don't make the most of the course you took, any course can be a waste of time.
