A home automation system in general can be added when the home is being built or it can be added to a house after it is built. Having a security system will help the owner feel safe from the risk of an intruder. Security zones are set up, usually with motion sensors, in areas where someone might try to enter the house such as windows and doors. Preventing a home invasion will not only keep the family safe, but belongings are safe as well. If someone does attempt to enter the home a loud alarm will sound. This sound usually sends the intruder running away. When the alarm sounds a monitoring service is also notified. This special service helps determine if it is a false alarm or not then they will contact the proper area authorities. This determination brings the authorities to being contacted to go to the home and check out everything.
Some security home automation systems bring safety through more extensive technology and equipment. Cameras are installed inside and outside to monitor any activity. Some camera run constantly and others are set on a special motion sensor allowing it to turn on if there is movement in the area. The internet is often used during this process as the house owner can check on the status of the property at any time.
Another way to use the home automation system for safety is to set up various electronics to turn off or on at various times on certain days. This could be a variety of elements that are scheduled, but the lights are often an element that is set to be automatically turned off or on according to a set schedule. This is used when the owners are away from the house, such as on an extended weekend or vacation. Home owners set up when the lights will turn on and off to make it look as if someone is at home. It is a way to trick would be burglars into thinking the residents are home. Often outside lights are a way to prevent burglaries because it is difficult to sneak into a house if they can be seen. Neighbors could call the police or the home owners could see them on the monitor.
If there is a fire, on the other hand, the home automated system alarms the monitoring company that contacts the fire department. Other systems will actually contact the fire department directly.
All of the safety elements of a home automation system join the rest of the elements on the system in a central location. Everything can be controlled from one location and even a remote control can be used.
