Do It Yourself: Upholstery Cleaning!

Cleaning your expensive upholstery is a tricky way to save a little cash

. By cleaning your furniture yourself, there is not a need to rely on a Houston upholstery cleaning company to come and clean your furniture. By following a few tips and tricks, you can have amazing looking furniture in no time at all with little cost.

You will need a few things in order to start cleaning your upholstery.

First things you will need is a store bought cleaning solution. These kinds of solutions can be found at any super store or hardware store. Find the one that you think is right for you. Next, you will need a horse hair brush, a dry vacuum cleaner, some absorbent rags and a steam cleaning device.

First off, take your vacuum cleaner, and vacuum the entire piece of upholstery for the best cleaning possible. Many Houston upholstery cleaning companies agree that vacuuming before the initial cleaning is a great way to have the very best cleaning possible. Make sure to get every crack and crevice as well.

Now take your chemicals, and follow the instructions listed on the bottle. Apply to desired area. If dealing with a stain, take your absorbent rag and press down onto the chemicals and stained area. This will allow the chemical to pick up as much debris, oil and dirt as possible. For best results, allow the chemical to dwell for 10-15 minutes before using your rag.

For odors, simply cover the entire piece of upholstery and brush it lightly with your brush. Allow the chemicals to sit for at least 10 minutes so that it may mix with the other smells in your furniture.

Now you will need to steam clean the entire piece with your store bought steam cleaning device. Any Houston upholstery cleaning team will tell you that the hotter the steam cleaner, the better. These devices are not as effective as professional truck mounted units, but in some cases, they get the upholstery looking as good as new.

Finally, allow the upholstery to dry before cleaning it again. Cleaning it too many times before it has completely dried may damage the furniture. Once you are satisfied with the results, enjoy your freshly cleaned furniture.

Cleaning your beautiful furniture can be tough, but in the end you can save money by preserving the life and quality of your furniture. Not to mention you won't have to call any professionals to clean it for you.
