Do Not Start A New Diet - Start A New Life
If you have a few pounds to lose and are contemplating going on a diet
, how does that make you feel? Does that idea fill you will glee, or do you dread it with all your might?
And what do we really mean when we say that word 'diet'?
Usually it if something you do to get the weight off as quickly as possible, while all the while you are thinking how good it will be when you get back to normal and can eat all the foods you are denying yourself now.
When you choose to diet, it is a short-term solution and you really only expect it to last until the weight is off. Almost any restrictive food diet plan you follow can work and you will lose weight. But where diets fall short is they only work for a limited time and if you have slashed calories beyond a hundred or two each day the body senses the food shortage, slows the metabolism (the rate your body burns fuel) putting the brakes on fat loss. So what do you do then?
Well most people go back to eating as they did before they began the diet as they have not learned a better way of eating to keep that fat off. This is the one contributing factor that leads to the yo-yo syndrome of losing weight, only to regain it again, and often more than you lost. This cycle can go on for years and causes frustration and despair.
The better way is to not even start a diet. Instead, how about beginning lifestyle changes that you can live with for the rest of your life? These changes will not only help you take off the excess pounds but will benefit your health as well. You do not need to commit to changing everything all at once, just add small changes step by step to create a brand-new healthy lifestyle that will give you the body you dream of.
Although it will take a little time to create this body you can speed it up by changing one's lifestyle in more than one area. We also need to create a higher activity level and work on developing a higher degree of self motivation.
Something helpful is the 80/20 rule. This is one thing that most people can happily live with for the long term while losing weight and getting into better shape. This is where 80 percent of the time good food choices take precedent over bad food choices. The other 20 percent of the time you can select foods that will satisfy any cravings so you are not giving up any of your favorite foods.
Eating healthy foods is the corner stone for keeping a healthy weight and making better choices most of the time is the easy way to do it.
There is no reason to make changes to your diet that you find impossible to live with for the long haul. This is where many fad diets fall short and gradual lifestyle change that includes a balanced diet will get you the very best fat loss results without causing you the agony of failed diets.
