Do Women And Men Differ On How They Lose Weight?

There are countless differences between women and men

. Plenty of physical differences and numerous psychological differences, which means that its very likely that all those differences are going to affect how an individual loses weight according to their gender.

Regardless of what differences there are, it is important to understand how they specifically affect your weight-loss plan. Not everyone is the same, and just because there are differences, does not mean they are in any way a disadvantage. They simply have a different challenge ahead of them.

Bodily differences

Initially, its easy enough to spot the outer physiological differences, but it is actually what you dont see that affects the body the most. Women generally have smaller lungs- meaning it is more difficult for the body to absorb oxygen during a workout. This can affect metabolic rates and limit the benefits from the same exercise. Essentially, a woman would have to work harder to accomplish the same amount of fuel consumption (caloric intake) than a man would.

This physiological difference means that a diet and exercise program will have to take in consideration a persons gender- not just size and weight-loss goals. A woman calculating the amount of calories they consume would likely have to reduce the amount they ingest or exercise more to achieve the same effects that a man would.

Another difference can be seen, sometimes. Generally, women have to generate a higher body temperature to achieve sweating. Sweating is the bodys natural way of cooling itself to allow an individual to workout longer and harder. For women, especially those freshly entering the pursuits of fitness, this can make achieving the full benefits from a workout much more difficult. However, men sweat more efficiently during the same amount of work. This is primarily due to the fact that the natural amounts of testosterone men produce improves sweating response. But, as the body becomes fit during the fitness program, it will begin to sweat more efficiently and increase the benefits from a workout.

Its all in the mind

Then there are the psychological differences between men and women. While each personality is different, gender tends to affect how a person acts upon their goals and ultimately their desire to pursue them.

Consider men, who at a majority, tend to seek fitness to work out. Generally, they do not target any specific goal and tend to simply focus on getting stronger or building endurance. In many cases, they search for a location without regard to environment, such as fitting in with the crowd.

Women, on the other hand, tend to benefit in an environment where others can share the same goals. Locations such as Southern California fitness centers orient themselves around designing an environment where patrons are able to associate themselves with others who share similar goals.

Additionally, men tend not to focus on one target technique, such as aerobics or body building. Women on the other hand, generally want to lose weight, not put it on through muscle mass. For this reason, women tend to limit their workout options, such as weight lifting and strength building, which actually burns calories very well. This limitation tends to hinder a workout, especially since more muscle does mean more caloric burn.

Then there is the other side of the issue. Women tend to take instruction better. When given advice, they tend to adopt the practices and pay attention to the details, such as tips, dieting methods, and fitness techniques. In these cases, women tend to benefit from more in-depth education and training. For these reasons, women tend to enjoy oriented environments, such as classes and trainers who are able to discuss individually designed programs. Because of this, women tend to benefit more from their workout when given the opportunity and knowledge to achieve their goals.

This brings up the importance of effective dieting used in combination with exercise. In these cases, women will need to orient their diets according to physiological differences, such as what foods to eat and when to eat them during the day. Proper training and education play an important role, which women tend to absorb more effectively and apply to their fitness agenda.

The goal of weight loss demands a different approach for both women and men. Though each individuals body is unique, their gender does play a role in affecting the benefits received from a workout. It is important to understand your body so that you can understand what fitness practices are needed to achieve your goals.
