Crunches
You definitely want to include crunches in your ab exercise workout. However, they aren't the only one to focus on. Make sure you balance out your workout with many other forms of exercise. If you spend too much time on only crunches your efforts aren't going to pay off. The idea is to make every minute or your workout time count and take you in the right direction.
Crunches are very simple to do. Start by lying flat on the floor or on a mat. You want to have your knees bent and your hands behind the head. Lift your upper body off the ground and at the same time tighten up your abdominal area. '
Oblique Twists
Part of your abs workout needs to involve oblique twists. These are the muscles on the sides of the stomach. You will need an exercise ball to do them, which is very affordable. Sit on the ball and slowly roll forward so that you have your back on the ball and your feet on the floor. Use the ball to help you do crunches in this position but twist your body from side to side as you do so.
Static Hold
Get 6 pack abs by including static hold moves into your workout routine. To do this, get into the same position as you would for sit ups. However, you want to place your elbows on the floor. Hold your body straight and tight for intervals. This is going to help your entire core gets stronger and more defined. Initially you should be aiming to hold this position for 30 seconds at a time. Continue to add 15 second intervals until you reach 5 minutes of hold at a time.
Leg Lifts
You will find that legs lifts are a simple way to work on your abs. Lie down on the floor and lift your legs straight up into the air. Make sure you don't bend your knees. Lower your legs slowly and steadily as far down as you can without letting them touch the floor. Do as many repetitions as you can until your legs are just too heavy for you to continue.
Variety is Key
Don't get stuck in a rut when it comes to abs exercise. Instead, you want to explore a variety of exercises that can get you results. By doing so you can avoid becoming bored with your workout. You can also prevent your body from hitting a plateau.
