first thing you want to do is go outside and measure your driveway length times width. This will give you the square foot measurment of your driveway. If you have a length measurment of 50 feet by a width measurment of 20 feet you have a thousand total square feet of driveway. This is important because you dont want to transport more five gallon buckets of this stuff than you have too. Not to mention you will have to return them or wait till next year taking up garage space.Once you have a square foot measurment you will be able to go to your local hardware store and puchase your sealer.On the back of these five gallon buckets of sealer it will say how many square feet each single bucket will cover. If one bucket covers 300 square feet you will need to purchase four of these five gallon buckets of sealer.This little bit of of extra sealer will be just enough to give yourself a nice thick coat.While at the hardware store see if you can locate a cheap push broom. This will make the task much easier than useing the squeegee that they will offer you. The broom leaves a better finished product thatlooks smoother to the eye than the squeegee. The last thing you will need to get from the hardware store is a empty five gallon bucket. This isso you can add water to the sealer without making a mess.

Put some work cloths on and some old shoes because you will get the sealer on you one way or the other.Remove any grass or vegetation that may be growing up through your drivewayor along the edges of the blacktop. If you have a leaf blower you willneed to clean off your driveway with it. Make sure that you cleanthe driveway well, there can be no dirt left on theasphalt or the sealer will not stick properly.If you do not have a blower you can sweep the driveway with the push broom. Once the driveway is clean you can put the five gallon buckets of sealer at the top of your driveway. This is because you want to work your way out towards the street. Next you want take the empty five gallon bucketand fill it 1/3 of the way up with water. Take one bucket of sealer and pour it into the bucket with the 1/3 of water and stir. You want to pour out about 1/4 of the bucket mixed with the water and sealer.Broom the sealer as far as it will go starting at the top left corner working your wayto the right thandown.
