On large building jobs the architectural engineer shows the design sizes of footings on the construction drawings. Then the carpenter builds them as drawn. However in a shed plan or a storage building plan, nothing so complicated needed here. Just simple shed plans is all that is needed. For the sizes of a shed or for do it yourself shed plans a pier and beam is indicated here..
If you are considering a shed or a storage building, or even a workshop, whatever, whether it be a workshop or a greenhouse or a shed with simple shed plans. You will want to make for certain that it is at least on a site that is high and dry.You don't want a site, that when or after a rain has water settling under where you may be building a shed. You don't want standing stagnant water. That is why it is so important to get your site right before the shed build.
Now the first thing you would want to do would be to find a perfectly suitable level place, preferably a little higher than everything else around. If the perfect spot cannot be found then, one would need to be made. Once the perfect spot is found or made, you may want to lay down about 4 inches of pea gravel, this would help with the drainage. Accurately locate one corner of where the proposed building will be,drive in stake A. measure out to the approximate site of the corners c and d, drive stakes here. Using large framing square make sure these L shaped frames are 30 inches from where the building will be. Now you will have reference for measuring and setting up your shed site. Measure out along the long side of where the building will set, drive in stake.Set up batter boards for your corners and the way to do that is at each corner,30 inches away, drive stakes and make a corner or a 90 degree at each corner of where the building will be 30 inches out and away from where the building will set. Drive the stakes then attach batter boards horizontally along and attached to the vertical stakes. Now you will have an L shape or 90 degree at each corner of the site.
The next step would be Using masons twine or something similar, use the twine to lay out the exact measurements for the foundation. Running the twine from corner to corner and also across from one 90 degree corner To the other 90 degree corner to form a x with the twine. Now you should be able to get your foundation start from an exact perfect square. Now you will be set for a do it yourself shed plans project.
