Debt and Bankruptcy...
He started out with humble beginnings, and has had one setback after another, including debt and bankruptcy. Bill Bartmann has been a millionaire three times, bankrupt twice, and a billionaire once. Despite major losses though, he's come back from every one of them, with major success. Despite defeat after defeat, he's never given in and has instead created wealth that most people only dream of.
A High School Dropout And Home Less At The Age Of 14...
He got his start in Iowa, but has stumbled through adversity aplenty, each loss seemingly giving him a springboard for a new start. As a high school dropout, and home less at the age of 14, he began travelling with a carnival. He applied for but was rejected by the Marine Corps due to slight to hearing problems, and had a serious problem with alcohol by the time he was 17.
An Accident Caused Paralysis...
One night, he was drunk and fell down a flight of stairs. This accident caused paralysis, and he was told he would never walk again. Despite this most major setback, though, this was also a major catalyst for change. He began to take on physical fitness in all seriousness, and eventually taught himself to walk again. Literally, you might say, he "stood on his own two feet."
From Slaughterhouse To Law School...
He worked as a strike organizer, worked in a slaughterhouse, and eventually took the GED exam and put himself through college and law school. He continued to change and grow, making his own way.
Over $1 Million In Personal Debt...
He invested in an oil company after he moved to Oklahoma, which was another positive change for Bill Bartmann. He began a new, better life, once the company became profitable. Adversity was once again a visitor, however, when the company went out of business in the 1980s, after oil prices plummeted. At this point, he had over $1 million in personal debt, as he personally guaranteed the corporation.
One Of The Wealthiest People In America...
Even with this setback, however, Bartmann was looking for new horizons. Taking out a small loan, he began buying bad loans (unpaid loans) from the bank, and set up a collection agency business collecting on those loans so that customers could retain their dignity and self-respect. Bartmann grew this business to 4,000 employees and revenues soon reached over a billion dollars. At this stage Bill became one of the wealthiest people in America. In 1998, tragedy struck again, when Bill's former business partner committed fraud and sent the company into bankruptcy.
A Good Example Of Fighting The "Good Fight"...
Despite the adversity, today, Bill Bartmann again is a wealthy man. Through all trials and tribulations, against all odds, Bartmann continues to triumph.
